I have always had an appreciation for wine and all the many types there are. I do not know much about wine, but it was what I was most excited about having when I started drinking and my parents usually have a bottle with dinner so I have been around it my whole life. Though these days I usually drink wine because I want to get drunk, sometimes a glass before bed is just what I need to wind down for the night. Nothing beats a glass of red and a good book before bed.
As I said my parents love to have wine with dinner, but they are just about as clueless about wine as me. My mom usually gets a white if she doesn't cook red meat with dinner, in which case she would choose a red, but that is about the depth of her pairing knowledge. I usually choose wine based off of recommendations from either the liquor store clerk or friends. If I don't get a recommendation I very often just look for the prettiest bottle from the category (red, white, pink, etc) of wine I'm in the mood for.
I am very much looking forward to gaining wine knowledge in this course and I hope to be able to come up with thoughtful wine pairings in the future. I love cooking and I think having a carefully chosen wine to go with a home cooked meal would elevate the dinner experience in a really fun way. I hope to also gain a solid understanding of wine vocabulary so that I can communicate about wine in a sophisticated way. My aunt is the biggest wine snob I have ever met and she is so excited that I am taking this course. She even said she would come to Tech for a weekend so that she can be a part of one of my blog posts which would be super fun! Overall I am just very excited for this course and I can't wait for all the events I will host this semester.
